The Board Members of Qenbet request that all potential members and current members read all the Guidelines. They are here to make this an enjoyable experience for every member of Qenbet's community.
When you join Qenbet you will be expected to know and follow basic rules of netiquette. Show respect to other people and their posts. Remember that the group is made up of a wide range of people, of varying ages; with varying levels of education and from different parts of the world. So be tolerant of spelling and grammatical errors.
Before posting read all the previous posts, it really is the best way to immerse yourself in the novel story. Although this is a fictional story, set in an alternate history, we are striving for some measure of historical accuracy. Some poetic license will naturally be needed, but please try to stay within the time and cultures of 15BCE. In order to role-play as a historical character you must first ask and obtain permission from the board. Please contact Thais Sobkneferu with your request.
If you wish to use someone elses character then ask permission. Most people are only too pleased to help but they may have a story of their own planned. Even if you get permission it's always worthwhile continuing to consult with the hand behind the character. If you spend a little time finding out that if what you have planned is in keeping with their character your post will be improved.
If you wish to join a storyline in the novel or if you wish to begin a new storyline and want to collaborate with someone then ask the people concerned. Don't worry, no-one here bites.
You must not harm or kill another character without the hand behind that character's permission.
Please bear in mind that if your character breaks the laws of Kemet then your character may find that the upholders of Kemetan justice write about putting your character through the justice system. So only break the law if you are willing to undergo this.Religious characters should be shown the same respect as everyone else. This is not the place to voice personal religious or political opinions. If as part of a storyline you wish to insult a character in a post then seek the agreement of the person involved.
Qenbet has several board members whose task it is to make the experience here more enjoyable, and to ensure that things run smoothly for the group as a whole. The members of this board are listed on the dust jacket. Feel free to contact them with any questions or concerns you might have. Each member has a defined area of concern, but anyone can answer questions, or at least send you to the person most likely to know the correct answer.
The High Priestess of Bast, Queen Basteta-Tiye deals with the Writer's group and is editor of the Qedet, Qenbet's newspaper. Whilst as Nomarch of the 18th nome and mayor of Per Bast she directs 'The City of the Cat' storyline.
The Chief Architect of Per-Bast IrysNepthys Seshat is a long-standing member of Qenbet but due to her current hectic schedule hasn't any defined duties.
Qenbet's Pharaoh (Pera'a) is Thais Sobkneferu. Her responsibility is to lead the role-play, and to give us a central figure around which to build our world. She is also responsible for maintaining Virtual Kemet, the dust jacket and the topics/threads.
The board members are here to guide the group, not to control every aspect of what we do. However, should anyone step beyond the bounds of what is considered good behaviour, they have the authority to act. Please contact one of them BEFORE doing something that might be questionable. The board members have the final say in what is considered good behaviour.
Role-play positions within the court, government, priesthood, military, or otherwise, will be the responsibility of the role-play official in charge of that area. Contact the person closest to the position you would like to apply for. They will be happy to help you. If you aren't sure of who to ask, contact one of the board members listed under 'Contact List' on the dust-jacket.
All roleplay positions/titles are awarded on the understanding that the member will contribute to the Qenbet novel and post in one of the storylines. Unless previously arranged with a board member failure to post for more than three months will result in the position/title being revoked.
When writing your stories you must remember that there are minors present and Qenbet has no provisions for restricting access to posts marked "for adults only". The use of gratuitous sex or violence, or offensive language, will not be permitted in Qenbet. The board members are the final arbiters of what is considered gratuitous. If you have ANY doubt as to whether your post may cross the line, discuss the post with a board member BEFORE posting it. If you are familiar with the Rating Standards of the Motion Picture Association of America, we would like to adopt the 'R' rating for our posts. Anything 'X' rated will not be tolerated. We realize that romantic scenes often lead to sex scenes, and that violence is necessary to stories about war. These are all part of real life. However, it is usually not necessary to provide graphic descriptions of these scenes. The best authors do not need to do this, why should we?
Any post that violates these guidelines will be removed. The author will be censured. This could include the loss of membership in Qenbet, and possibly in Pan Historia as well. All we really ask is that you give consideration to the feelings and sensibilities of others before you post.
