Henuttiwy in Waset... Author: Henuttiwy Corinth Date: 03-02-01 17:26 Henuttiwy is a child of an Egyptian mother and a Greek father. She grew up with her parents as they followed the trade routes from Greece through Egypt, and was a bare child when her family was brutally killed by poachers they'd stumbled across -- Henuttiwy hid herself under sand and debris and was thus missed. At the start of the novel, she is living as a street urchin in Waset. Occasionally, she gets gigs performing as a musician. Her foreign parentage prevents her from following other than the world's oldest profession or the call of the musician's muse... she's chosen the latter, with a touch of petty thievery when this was the only thing to stand between her and starvation... And, so, she starts here... She can write Greek and Demotic Egyptian. And she can play musical instruments and sing like a fiend..... her life depends on it... She has a virulent distaste for poachers, buerocratic cheaters, and the like...

Hm-t Netjr Tpt Ne Sekhmet Author: Sekhmet Meritamen (Image in center) Sekhmet Meritamen is the High Priestess of Sekhmet, and was the Chief Physician to Pharaohs Cleopatra Hatshepsut and Ma'atibRe Nesnut Hatshepsut. Sekhmet. is a small, slight, woman, with long black hair that is braided in many plaits. Sekhmet was born in MenNefer (Memphis) to the Meritamen family, her father, also the physician to Pharaoh Ptolemy XII, her mother was a noblewoman and she has one brother, Allanon. Sekhmet was always fascinated by medicine and so her father, against the protestations of Sekhmet's mother, allowed her to go to the Temple of Sekhmet to be trained as a physician-priest. While she was in the temple school, the shift in power under Berenice Barsine and Cleopatra Tryphiana deposing Ptolemy XII came to pass. Under this new political regime, Sekhmet's parents were put to death for refusing to swear fealty to Berenice's illegitimate government. Had Sekhmet and her brother, Allanon been around, doubtless, they too would have been executed. Sekhmet had met the young Cleopatra VII and the struck a friendship. Later, when Cleopatra was restored to power, Sekhmet was elevated to the status of Chief Physician of Pharaoh. Sekhmet remained married to her work as physician and priestess and was in consistent service to the throne, until the untimely death of Cleopatra at the birth of her son, Prince Ramessa. Cleopatra, foreseeing a possible problem ordered Sekhmet to take the infant and herself to the court of the Babylonian King and there she remained in exile until summoned by the newly crowned Pharaoh, Ma'atibre Nesnut Hatshepsut. Sekhmet was able to clear her name and was reinstated as chief physician to pharaoh. After the attempts of Aretas the Usurper and his mother, Amenta, former mistress of Ptolemy XII and murderer of Cleopatra (amongst others) Sekhmet met her husband, Tjeti Sobkneferu, The Hm Ntjr Tepi Ne Imn (High Priest of Amun). Their courtship was a whirlwind and shortly after Ma'atibRe's restoral and the birth of her son, Djedibre, Sekhmet and Tjeti were married. They have one daughter, AmunNofret, along with Sekhmet's adopted son, Menhenetet (Meni).
